Advice For Learner Drivers
This is my personal advice to pupils who are thinking of learning or are already learning with another instructor.
Ask your instructor for his grade. All instructors are tested every few years on their instructional technique and are graded accordingly from 1 (very poor) to 6 (very good).
If you want, ask to see proof.
I am a grade 5 driving instructor.
The cheapest instructors are not always the best and you could end up paying more for your lessons in the long run. A good instructor may get you through your driving test in fewer lessons than a poor or average one.
Do not pay for a block of 10 or 20 lessons up front until you have got to know your instructor and you feel comfortable with him or her. Some companies may entice you in with special offers that sound attractive, however you may struggle to get your money back if you are not happy with your instructor.
You should be learning and/or improving every lesson.
There should be no jockeying. This means that the instructor picks you up with the previous pupil in the car. This could mean that you drive the same pupil home, the same way, every lesson.
It's your money and your time.
Nathan, Brighton.
"I had failed my test on two occasions with another driving school. I was then introduced to John and after a few lessons I passed my test with ZERO mistakes. Highly recommended."
Michala, Hove.
"After failing my test 12 years ago, I resolved over the years to never retake my test. However, a recent change in circumstances made me make enquiries with some local instructors. I wanted to book with John as soon as I spoke to him.
Instead of dreading lessons as I had before, I began to enjoy learning to drive. This time when I took my test I knew I was ready. I passed with confidence and am now driving on my own."
